-
Switch off the refrigerator, the night before removalists arrive.
-
Remove all coins, jewellery, chequebooks, keys and valuable collections from drawers and take them with you.
-
Start packing at least a couple of weeks before moving day. A slow steady pack is a lot less stressful.
-
Use strong boxes, trying not to overpack cartons. Special thick walled cartons are a good idea for dinnerware & glassware.
-
Place heavier items at the bottom of cartons with lighter items towards the top.
-
Label each box and indicate the room and contents, and clearly label if contents are fragile.
-
Save room by using towels to wrap fragile items.
-
Remove any loose shelves from bookcases etc, and tape them together.
-
Pack books tightly on their ends in smaller cartons.
-
Try not to leave too many clothes etc, in chests and dressers as this may damage the joints when they are moved.
-
Try to save a space for the truck outside your residence and notify your neighbours of any inconvenience.
